Nyantakyi Fraud Should Be A Test Case For The Special Prosecutor

The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Honorable Alhassan Inusah Fusseini has called on the office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the matter that has taken center stage in the country for the past week concerning allegations of defrauding by false pretense against President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi.

His Exellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo last week after watching some parts of the investigative piece yet to be premiered by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas directed the Criminals Investigative Department (CID) to arrest the FA boss on the grounds of defrauding by false pretense.

Speaking to Class FM, Honorable Inusah Fusseini highlighted that it is because of cases like this that the office of the special prosecutor was set up. In addition, the need for the establishment of the Special Prosecutor’s office was because we had not really appreciated the work of the Police and the Attorney General’s office in fighting corruption.

Alhaji Alhassan Inusah Fusseini is in line with this advocating for the office of the Special Prosecutor to probe the alleged case against the President of the Ghana Football Association for defrauding by false pretenses.

“The real significance of the Anas’s tape is the exposure of corruption in football in Ghana and its incidental effect on the Political establishment. Therefore there is no better place to take the case than the office of the special Prosecutor”, he said.

He further stated that the Special Prosecutor under the laws of the country has been given the power to demand the referral of the case to his office for investigations so he should subject the matter to scrutiny.

Moving on, Honorable Inusah who is also the ranking member of Constitutional, legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee emphasized that the office of the Special Prosecutor has the investigative powers and prosecutorial powers so it is necessary for the Special Prosecutor to take up the case and investigate to get to the bottom of it.
