27.05.2018 LISTEN

Sammy Gyamfi, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team has been dragged to a Kumasi High Court for defaming Mr Alfred Kwame Obeng, the Managing Director of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST).

Mr Obeng is praying the court to award damages totalling GH¢ 5 million against Mr Gyamfi.

In Mr Obeng's Statement of Claim, he contended that Mr Gyamfi had accused him of being a 'thief' and he had been engaged in thievery at BOST.

According to Mr. Obeng the defendant made those allegations during a radio panel discussion when he appeared as panelist on a Television programme dubbed: 'Badwam' which is aired in the morning on Adom TV, a television station owned by Multimedia Company.

According to the plaintiff, the topic was: 'Double Salary Probe: MP's Must face the law … If Amidu,' on April 19, this year.

The plaintiff further holds that the utterances of Mr Gyamfi had made him suffer considerable distress and embarrassment adding that 'The publication has the likelihood of relieving him of his post as the Managing Director of BOST.

Mr. Obeng is therefore praying the court for an order of injunction restraining the defendant, his servants, agents from further uttering, broadcasting any words or images in any manner whatsoever suggesting that he (Mr. Obeng) was a thief.
