Police Threaten To Retaliate If Police Stations Are Attacked

Crime & Punishment Police Threaten To Retaliate If Police Stations Are Attacked
MAY 25, 2018 LISTEN

There have been numerous attacks on Police Stations and Police Men in recent months leaving many injured and a couple of Police officers losing their lives. It looks as if the Police force is tired of those happenings and have taken the decision to reply any group that attack the security service with full force.

Director General of Police Intelligence and Professional Standards COP Nathan Kofi Boakye has revealed that such acts will no longer be tolerated by the Police service and any group that try to undertake such activities will be met with the necessary fire.

COP Kofi Boakye speaking about the issue at a media encounter in Accra made it known that the Police are there to protect the people but if they cannot protect themselves then there is no way they will be able to protect the general public.

“If we can’t protect ourselves we cannot protect anybody and going forward let me sound a word of caution, Police are not going to sit down for any group of people to attack a police and go scot free. If we cannot protect ourselves then we cannot protect anybody”, he said.

He also emphasized that no matter the malfeasance or whatever that the Police does, nobody has the right to attack any police man and for that matter the Police Station.

“Any people of people who attempt to attack any Police station from henceforth will be met with the necessary fire that it deserves”.

Executive Director for the Ghana Institute of Governance and security, David Agbey, however is against the decision by the Police, and believes COP Kofi Boakye is only blowing hot air. In his defense the Police has no right to face people with such brutal force.

David Agbey argues that what rather COP Kofi Boakye has to do as a Professional Police man is to try to investigate why the Public is challenging the Authority of the Ghana Police Service. He is of the view that the reason why ordinary citizens are challenging the Police is the fact that the Police are not doing what the Police are supposed to do.

“For me I think that this is not a good call at all and what needs to be done is that the Police service now is getting to a stage that their image is rotting and so they need to find a mechanism of really building public confidence”.
