Teachers' Role In Nation Building Should Be Acknowledged

The Chaplain of the Methodist Senior High School (MESEC) at Kansaworodo near Sekondi, Very Reverend Kaya Eshun on Thursday admonished teachers to realise the pivotal role they play in nation building.

To this end, teachers must stand out as good role models to the children they teach and the schools they work and make the desired impact on the lives of these children and the entire nation.

The Very Rev. Eshun was delivering a sermon on the theme, "Teaching and Discipleship "to mark John Wesley Day celebrations at Kansaworodo in the Western Region.

He reminded teachers that the teaching profession was a sacred calling which embodies evangelism, guidance and counselling and appealed to teachers to mould and transform the lifestyle of their students to make them fit and play a meaningful role in society.

'As teachers, it is your duty to inculcate moral principles into the children you teach to become responsible leaders in future", he advised.

The Very Rev.Eshun entreated teachers to venture into discipleship and bring people into the saving knowledge of Christ in fulfilment of the great commission.

"As part of discipleship, teachers ought to exhibit the highest sense of maturity to be spiritually fit in every endeavour of life, be firmly rooted in Jesus Christ and be the light of the world", he exhorted.

He also asked teachers and the student body to endeavour to be victorious over sin by having authority over sin, understand scripture, maintain an effective prayer life, exercise self-control, forgiveness and donate to charity.

Mrs Roxanne Quaitoo, the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Administration of the school advised the students and teachers to thread on the path of good role models such as John and Charles Wesley who were able to spread the word of God and win more souls through their hymns.

The day also witnessed the singing and meanings of hymns written by John Wesley and other hymn writers as part of their evangelical revival and the greatest impact they made on the body of Christ.
