University Students Set To Host Certificate Course In Global Health In Accra

Healthcare students under the aegis of the University of Ghana Pharmaceutical Students Association and the Federation of Medical Students Association (FGMSA) in collaboration with Maries Cancer Foundation are set to host a Certificate Course in Global Health, Accra 2018.

According to the Project Coordinator Mr Bright Marthins, the course is scheduled to hold for two days, on the 7^th and 8^th of June, 2018 at the University of Ghana, Accra, Ghana. Target participants include medical and pharmacy students, students from the social and environmental sciences, post graduate students and young professionals who are considering a career in global health and those who want to widen their knowledge on global health and development issues.

The certificate course introduces theories and concepts including current trends, issues, challenges and debates in global health to provide a critical understanding of the determinants that shape the current global health situation. The course employs a cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary approach. Topics are particularly chosen and designed to cover the important challenges the world faces.

The course director and lecturer is Professor Don Eliseo Lucero Prisno III of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Don has published in the fields of global health and public health, authored several book chapters and sits in a number of international editorial boards. His works, which are mostly focused on addressing global inequity through health, has been recognized by a number of international awards including the first Global Health Promotion Practice Award by the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE). He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health.
