2018 Women In Human Resource Conference Opens In Accra
24.05.2018 LISTEN

The fourth Women in Human Resource (HR) Conference opened in Accra with a call on participants to move away from micro management and concentrate on the management of the organisation as a whole.

Mrs Christiana Olaoye, Chief Executive Officer of Energy Commercial Bank Ghana Limited, who made the call, said concentrating on individual's problems in an organisation would let the HR Managers forget the real problem facing the organisation.

She said every organisation that expects to grow must consider Human Resource input in its strategic planning, adding, 'If HR is not part of the business' strategic planning that business will fail'.

The two-day conference is an annual event being organised by the Ghana Employers Association (GEA) to create the platform for female HR practitioners to share experiences and practices that would help them enhance their career prospects and advancement in the corporate world.

The Conference, which was attended by about 100 women HR Managers, was on the theme, 'Maximising the Strategic Role of HR for Organisational Growth and Effectiveness'.

Mrs Olaoye emphasised the need for Executive Management to recognise the need for HR strategic management, encourage it and support the strategy for the growth of their businesses.

She also urged women to continue to develop themselves at every level to make them efficient and effective to work in any organisation.

Mr Alex Frimpong, the Chief Executive Officer of GEA, said: 'We all have the academic qualifications but the difference is the impact we make on our organisation' and urged the women to participate freely in the discussions as well as share experiences.

He said given the opportunity to women irrespective of their status and background, they could transform the sectors they found themselves.

Mr Frimpong said the enthusiasm of the participants in the previous conference had given them the edge to continue its organisation.

He said given the increased role of women in society, the GEA would commit itself to create the necessary platform for Women HR Managers to build their profession and urged them to take advantage of the conference to market the network.
