The Medical Superintendent of the Keta Municipal Hospital has appealed to citizens in the Keta Municipality and Ghanaians in general to adopt periodic medical check ups in order to improve upon their health and also avoid certain untimely deaths in the municipality and the country.

The Medical Superintendent made the appeal in an interview with journalists ahead of the facility's first quarter performance review for 2018 at Keta.

Dr. Kwesi Asare Bediako regrets that many deaths that occur in various health facilities across the country, including that of the Keta Municipal Hospital could have been avoided if patients took the trouble to have themselves checked on regular basis rather than showing up at hospitals when the situation has deteriorated.

He pointed out that this attitude of waiting till ones health conditions worsen do not add value to the Ghanaian Health Care delivery as many death could be managed and possibly avoided if illness are detected early.

He indicated that any death that occurs at any health facility demotivate health practitioners and health service professionals, though society have different perception.

Dr. Asare further pointed out that apart from putting health professionals in a tight position in their attempts to save the life involve at that critical moment, the patient also cause a lot of emotional and economic inconveniences to his or her family and relatives and the society at large.

Dr. Bediako emphasized that health care delivery must be seen as a continuous process and not magical, hence reluctance to periodically check ones health status should be discouraged in the modern Ghanaian society.

Dr. Kwesi Asare Bediako assured that management and staff of the hospital will continue to work hard and deliver quality health care services to persons who find themselves within the hospital's catchment areas despite the current financial conditions of the facility.

The Keta Municipal Hospital has been on top of the Volta regional Health Facilities Peer Review chart for the period of 2014, 2015 and 2016 health years and currently ranked best hospital on the Volta Regional Hospital's League Table for the year 2017.
