Fishermen affected by sea disaster appeal for assistance

Winneba (C/R), Sept. 6, GNA - Some 50 fishermen in Winneba whose canoes and nets were destroyed in disaster Monday night have appealed to the National disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to assist alleviate their suffering.

Mr Tetteh Odorno, a spokesman for the fishermen, also appealed to the Ministry of fisheries to help them go back into business by providing them with nets and canoes under a credit scheme. Twenty-five canoes and some fishing nets costing several millions of cedis were destroyed by high tidal waves, which hit Winneba. Mr. Odorno said life has become very difficult for them and their dependants as a result of the disaster.
