Appeal For Funds: 2-Year-Old Baby Needs 20,000 For Surgery
21.05.2018 LISTEN

Kafui Bobo-Mensah, a 2-year-old baby, urgently needs to undergo an ear surgery in India to enable him to hear again.

His mother noticed that he was not responding to any of sound and was unable to talk even after his first birthday.

It was later diagnosed that he had lost his hearing and that had affected his speech.

“Initially, we thought he could use a hearing aid but came to the bitter realisation that he may need more than just a hearing aid. The level of his hearing loss is such that he would require a cochlear implant which at the moment cannot be carried out in Ghana,” his mother said.

Kafui's desperate mother, Lebene Katattah, who is a lab technologist at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, is appealing to the public to support her with donations of any amount to help her raise the $20,000 cost of the surgery and rehabilitation in India.

A cochlear implant (CI) is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing in both ears.

In countries such as the US, it could cost about $100,000 to undergo the surgical procedure.
