President condemns violence at Sankore

President Akufo-Addo has described as barbaric and primitive; the series of violent attacks usually recorded at Sankore in the Asunafo South district during and after general elections and has asked the chiefs and people of the area to do all that they could to find a lasting solution to the problem.

He has also charged the Police to deal ruthlessly with perpetrators of such heinous crimes at Sankore as well as anyone who foments trouble in the area without fear or favour.

The President said these when he officially opened a new office accommodation of the Asunafo South District Health Directorate at Kukuom as part of his three-day tour of the Brong Ahafo region.

The project, which started 12 years ago, was funded by the Government of Ghana at the cost of three hundred and seventy thousand Ghana cedis (Gh.c 370,000.00).

The President reiterated the need for people to accommodate each other in spite of their political differences rather than resorting to such violent conducts which are inimical to the development and progress of the area.

The Omanhene of Kukuom, Nana Kwaku Aterkyi II, earlier in his welcome address, appealed to the President to facilitate the early construction of the various unmotorable roads in the area as the situation continued to have dire consequences on the socio-economic activities there.

He further called for the provision of a District Hospital at Kukuom to adequately meet the health needs of the people.

President Akufo-Addo later cut the sod for the construction of a new Office complex for the Asunafo South District Assembly at Kukuom.

At Hwidiem, capital of the Asutifi South district, the President inaugurated a Gh.c 365,000 new ward of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Hospital, which was built by Mr. Yaw Owusu Brempong and his wife, Adutwumwaa.

Mr. Owusu Brempong, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Venture Capital and a native of the area, solely footed the cost of the project as part of his contributions toward the development of the area.

The President also inspected work on a 68-bed capacity maternity block at the Kenyase Health Centre.

President Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh; Minister of Regional Re-organisation and Development, Dan Kwaku Botwe; Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah and Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Evans Opoku-Boubie, among others.
