Government has allocated over a hundred million Ghana cedis (Gh.c 100,000 000.00) to upgrade the poor road network in the Ahafo enclave and other parts of the country under the Emergency Spot Improvement project and other interventions meant to improve the road sector.

He said the Ministry of Roads and Highways has developed a comprehensive plan meant to tackle the myriad of challenges facing the road sector and assured the people of Ahafo that their request for the construction of some roads in the area would be catered for soon to speed up development.

“Ahead of the 2016 elections we were made to believe that roads infrastructural development in the Mahama-led administration was unprecedented. When I said that was not the case, the then President said I was sleeping and that was why I could not see what he had done. But upon assumption of office, I realized that the deplorable nature of roads leading to most towns is a major challenge of the people.

“The unprecedented infrastructural development was a mere propaganda, there is no iota of truth in that assertion”, he said.

The President was addressing chiefs from the various traditional areas in the proposed Ahafo Region at Goaso in the Asunafo North Municipality.

The meeting discussed developmental needs of the area and also looked at the preparedness of the area ahead of the creation of the new region.

The President urged the chiefs to lead the crusade for the creation of the proposed Ahafo region and ensure that when the referendum is held on the proposal, they would record at least 50% voter turn-out and 80% YES to make it a reality.

Speaking on behalf of the Ahafo chiefs, the Omanhene of Yamfo, Nana Ansah Adu Baah II, was grateful to the President for the numerous development programmes and social interventions being rolled-out to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

He pledged the support of the chiefs toward the realization of the various policies by government to promote development across the country. END
