Brakwa citizens in USA donate 72.7 million cedis

Brakwa (C/R), Sept. 1, GNA - Brakwa Citizens resident in the United States have donated a total of 72.7 million cedis towards development projects at Brakwa in the Central Region.

This was disclosed at a meeting at Brakwa on Thursday, attended by Brakwa Education Reform Committee, Water and Sanitation Project Committee and Assembly members.

Presenting 50 million cedis as part of the contributions the President of the Brakwa Citizens Association in United States, Mr Francis Obeng said that the money, which had been presented to the community at separate functions included 63.6 million cedis for water project, 4.6 million cedis for educational books and 3.5 million cedis for street light bulbs.

He said two million cedis went to the teachers as incentives to organise extra-classes for the five Junior Secondary Schools being Roman Catholic Methodist, Presbyterian, District Assembly and Brakwa/Kokoso Islamic.

He said, he has appealed to other citizens in the United Kingdom to donate.

Mr Obeng, who urged the people to use the money as directed further appealed to the people to take interest in the children's education. He named other officers of the Association as Mr Jonas Appau, Secretary, Mr Sam Antwi, Treasurer and Mr Ben Antwi Co-ordinating Secretary. He said a list of the members of the Association in US would be communicated to the development committees at Brakwa.

Mr Emmanuel K. Asiedu, Secretary to the Water Project who received the last instalment of 50 million cedis as part of the 63.6 million cedis thanked the Association and promised that the money would be put to proper use.
