Ghanaians Celebrate Mothers' Day In Style

Accra, May 13, GNA - Ghanaians on Sunday celebrated Mothers Day in style to show gratitude to all mothers and mother figures who have made significant impacts in their lives.

Most people shared memories of their mothers on their various social media platforms, while some were emotional with a lot of exaggerations as well.

Majority of families tried their best to put smiles on the faces of their mothers by texting, calling to wish them well and also giving them presents for the enormous role they had played.

Others gave their mothers treats by taking them to eatery joints where they could wine and dine to their satisfaction, whiles recollecting some memorable moments.

At the Full Gospel Church International (FGCI) in Nungua, the men sung and danced to appreciate their wives, mothers, sisters and female friends for their hard work.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Godwin Genya, a member of the Church, said although some men failed to acknowledge the roles women played in society, there was no doubt that women were very important in its development.

'Some of us men sometimes fail to acknowledge our women but the fact is that without them the society will not be complete; they're roles are felt virtually everywhere in the Church and they form majority of the congregation,' he said.

Mr Genya disclosed that he and his siblings had plans of taking their mother out for treat after church to show her how much they loved her for taking good care of them.

Mr Lawrence Andy Agbalekpor, a lubes engineer, said his mother had gone through a lot to cater for him and his siblings but she never gave up, even when she had to do it single handed because their father travelled outside the country.

'With her midnight prayers and guidance we have also become somebody in life. She did not have it easy but she pulled through and so deserves to be celebrated. We have a little surprise for her,' he said.

Madame Veronica Obeng, a seamstress at Spintex, reiterated the importance of mothers and mother figures in everybody's life because 80 per cent of a child's future success depended on the mother.

'There is the need to honour and express gratitude to every mother for all the hardships they have to bear in bringing up their children. If a mother refuses to rebuke her child for doing something wrong, that child would grow up to be a bad adult. I believe Ghanaian mothers have done well in this area and they deserve to be celebrated,' she said.

Miss Paulina Ansong, a beautician, said; 'My mother made time out of her busy schedules to nurture me, therefore, I also have to give her something to smile about, something she would cherish forever.'

In the midst of the celebrations and receiving gifts some mothers also expressed their gratitude for the love their children have shown them.

Mrs Doris Nyarko, a food vendor, with smiles on her face, thanked her children for surprising her with a hamper.

She expressed gratitude to God for giving her selfless children as some parents took care of their children but got abandoned once they became adults.

'Thank you so much for honouring me, I know people who suffered to provide for their children but they do not even call to check on them, even when they are in good positions. May the good Lord protect and bless you forever,' she said.
