Opinion Politicians In Salaga, Are U Really Potent? We Demand Attention Now!
MAY 13, 2018 LISTEN

The Tamale-Salaga road is of 70-75 km, approximately a two hour drive if the road is an asphalt road.

Now, Salaga is acknowledged as one of the oldest town in Ghana. This is an undisputed fact. The trans-sahara slave market had it's central market in Salaga. Among some of the devastating, worn-out, and abandoned remains of these supposedly income generating tourist site includes the slave cemetery, bath, wells and market. Let me not digress into this. Perhaps I should get another space to discuss this hysterical and grieving aspect of Salaga thoroughly though I mentioned them as I need to make a point with them too.

OK! To quickly rewind back to 6th December 2016, an electorate died with several others severely injured due to a heap of sand abandoned by a contractor on the road. Many more likewise awkward circumstances have happened.

And, today, I am really saddened to my knee when I heard another accident on that devastating road claimed the lives of two people. Many others are brutally injured.

Somewhere in 2007 during the regime of former president J.A. Kufour, a contract was awarded for the road to be constructed. We rejoiced and continue to jubilate every year ever since, as these politicians would continue to award contracts for the road to be constructed.

Isn't it weird it's only during an election year they pretend to start working on the road. I guess we're used to it now; nothing is weirder than we the youth keeping quite about this issue while we hide behind our political colors.

Fast-forward to 2016. During Former President John Mahama's regime, we saw the presence of E&Planners and the then Ghanem Co. on the road. A very insignificant part of the road was constructed, proximally; say 1km part constructed. it ended there till this sad hour due to the change of government.

(I even doubt the authenticity of all contracts awarded for the construction of the Tamale-Salaga road, seriously)

Let's regurgitate the slave market issue I aforementioned. Don't you think if this our Tamale-Salaga road is in a state it's supposed to be, good; smooth; asphaltic, wouldn't we entertain more tourist presence and ultimately, improvement and development?

We, the youth, should stop asking questions like 'For how long would we continue to be deceived?, for how long, for how what, for how that?'.

It's high time we are being vigilant in putting pressure on the so-called leaders of ours. The time to arise and answer our questions with actions is due. We must sometimes put down politics, morality and diplomacy in front of every politicians so they would see and witness the rage and anger that boils in our blood.

All I want the politician reading this is to know that we shall not tolerate them anymore until the road is constructed.

And, if we the youth of Salaga refuses dispose off our political colors to lock palms together in fighting for our road to be constructed and other developments to reach us, then I'll be impelled to ask whether the Youth of Salaga really deserve to be called men.

Because real men fight for the betterment of their land irrespective of their political party. Hence, please let's be the real men we are and intertwine with each other to fight for the development of Salaga, our HOME.

I plead on social media activist, students, all and sundry to help repost this concern of ours on whichever platform available.

The voices of the voiceless must be heard.
