The Tema Industrial Enclave and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) have applauded the government its decision to re-construct road network in GRIDCo and Tema Steel area.

In a statement signed by the Reverend Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, the AGI's Chairman of Tema Region, they said they were excited that steps had been taken to address a major concern.

'Having gone through a long haul of advocacy, this comes as a welcome initiative', it added.

Tema is home to Ghana's heavy industries and until recently, generated much industrial appeal. Volumes of products from factories and cargo including those in transit pass through Tema daily.

The statement said in spite of such enormous pressure on the road network, there had been very little maintenance in some sections of the industrial area roads in the last decade.

'The social and economic impact of such deplorable roads cannot be overemphasized - adding up to the cost of doing business.

'Indeed, this project when completed will facilitate trade and ease the burden of commuting between industrial enclaves.'

The statement said Association also found it refreshing that cement manufactured locally would be used to fix the deteriorating roads.

It was going to closely monitor the progress of work to ensure its completion on schedule.

The AGI would like to see other industrial enclaves such as the Tema Oil Refinery area considered for similar road re-construction works.
