The acting Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blays says the Akufo-Addo government has performed far beyond his expectations.

“I'm saying with all sincerity that it's more than what I expected. President Nana Akufo-Addo is doing very well. He's met my expectations even beyond what I expected,” he said on Friday.

Freddie Blay, who guided NPP to their defeat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in December 2016’s general elections was speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii sen.

Mr. Blay, who revealed that he sometimes attends cabinet meetings, noted that the Akufo-Addo government has put in the necessary measures to fast-track the country’s development.

“I have the privilege of attending cabinet meetings…There are several policies put in place that I am aware of. I am aware that if things go on this way, if we have peace and we don't agitate more particularly the labour front and things go the way they are now, I'm sure that in the next few months Ghana will be an enviable place,” he added.

The NPP party in its 2016 manifesto promised to implement the free Senior High School (SHS) policy, as well as create factories in every district in Ghana as well as dams for communities in the northern part of the country.

The party also promised to manage the Ghanaian economy properly, give every constituency one million dollars to boost development and also create employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

Although the government has been able to fulfill some of the promises, 17 months down the line, there is still a chunk of promised initiatives, including the provision of dugout wells, the one-district one-factory programme and one million one constituency, among others, yet to materialise.

Freddie Blay contests for NPP Chairmanship slot

Freddie Blay has led the NPP as its acting Chairman since the party’s substantive Chairman, Paul Afoko was suspended in 2015.

Mr Blay is currently seeking to be endorsed as the NPP National Chairman in the party’s upcoming elections in July 2018 .

He picked his nomination forms on Thursday, May 10, 2018.
