The Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Tahiru Issahak Moomin, has hinted at plans to create a revenue unit to mobilize revenue for implementation of the assembly's development projects.

This would be headed by the Local Government Inspector and there would be effective monitoring and reporting on revenue returns, through the use of Information Technology application and management.

The MCE was addressing an ordinary meeting of the assembly, in Wa, and said they needed to improve their revenue generation performance by restructuring the ways things were done.

'You will all agree with me that revenue is the backbone of the operations of this assembly and everything we do depend on our inflows.'

He spoke of vigorous data collection on businesses in the municipality and said this was being done with support from the German Development Agency (GIZ) and the Local Governance Capacity Support Project (LGCSP).

The exercise would capture stores, table top sellers, kiosks, canopies, warehouses and those selling under umbrellas in the municipality.

Alhaji Moomin noted that the assembly had huge potential for revenue mobilization and said issuance of building permits and property rates for example could help bring in more money.

The Presiding Member, Mr. Rahman Topie, said the general assembly remained the highest decision making body and cautioned against anything that could undermine its work or disregard its oversight responsibility function. GNA
