Ghanaian patients living with breast cancer disease have received a sign of relief following the launching of “One Cedi to Save a Breast and a Life”, a charity campaign aimed at supporting needy breast cancer patients to undergo their treatments, by the management of Breast Care International (BCI), a breast cancer advocacy group in Ghana.

One Cedi to Save a Breast and a Life” is a donation from the public by dialing *711*91# to TIGO/AIRTEL, MTN or VODAFONE and donate one cedi, a strategy to encourage contributions from across the entire social-strata, to join hands in the fight against the dreaded disease, which claims the live a woman in every 69 seconds globally.

The launching, which took place at the premises of Peace and Love Hospital in Accra on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, was attended by medical practitioners, breast cancer patients and survivors, the media and the public.

Launching the campaign, the President and Founder of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, said the drive will help make diagnostic procedures and treatment options not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), free for the needy, and the large percentage of the rampant late-stage presentation cases that are attributed to poverty will be addressed through the donations made through the short code, which will be used to cater for transportation and post-treatment rehabilitation.

Dr. Wiafe Addai, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Peace and Love Hospitals in Kumasi and Accra, introducing a catchphrase “Your one Ghana cedi donation can save a breast and a life” in her speech said the campaign reflects the latest projection of the Board and Management of BCI for an all-inclusive nationwide drive to re-kindle the spirit of charity to secure the future, especially, the breast cancer patients.

“We should all contribute generously and show reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which can cause needless and preventable diseases and deaths among us. The gratification in giving stems from our shared love and values for humanity. Giving is very impactful, because it introduces our children to the importance of generosity, while encouraging friends and family to do the same,” she appealed.

“Remember to tell a friend, to also tell a friend to simply dial, *711*91# to TIGO/AIRTEL, MTN or VODAFONE and donate one cedi to save a mother, sister, daughter, niece or wife. Remember one cedi can save a breast and a life,” Dr. Wiafe concluded.
