Catering Industry ready to offer more jobs

Players in the catering industry say, with the right policy interventions by government and other key stakeholders, the industry has the potential to create several millions of jobs for people, especially the youth.

The Proprietor of MAJET Catering Services and Decoration, Madam Mary Obiri, who said this also noted that catering service has a critical role to play in making government’s industrial transformation agenda a reality.

She was speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the Second Graduation ceremony of MAJET Catering and Decorations at New Dormaa, a suburb of Sunyani, where four women who have undergone intensive training graduated.

All the four women namely; Victoria Yaa Krah, Martha Takyiwaa, Perpetual Yelpou and Joyce Serwaa went through training in catering and decorations and they were issued with certificates.

Madam Mary Obiri observed that the training given to student caterers is capital intensive and called for government’s intervention in that regard to encourage more people to enrol.

She called for closer collaborations between government and key players in the catering industry to create the enabling environment in order to provide more training opportunities for people to make a decent living from catering and decorations either as part-time career of full time.

Madam Mary Obiri also appealed for start-up capital for those who have successfully completed their training to enable them to set up their own businesses and also employ others. ([email protected])
