A mentoring programme to aid school children to make the right choices in life has been held at Anomabo in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.

It sought to inspire young people to believe in their dreams, to believe that they had the power to achieve whatever they wanted to be in future.

In excess of 300 children drawn from the Anomabo Catholic, Methodist and Anglican schools, Love Devine international school, King of Kings preparatory school, and Akraman Catholic school participated in the programme.

The mentoring for youth development programme was initiated by Anomabo Boys and Girls Club and sponsored by Mr. Emmanuel Acquah, Chief Executive Officer of Kobba-Acquah Foundation (KAF) with the goal of employing practical and real life stories as useful tool to mentor the youth.

Addressing the school pupils, Ms Mabel Dontwi, a Mental Health Nurse with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) advised the pupils to focus on their education, work hard to live their dreams and lift themselves out of poverty.

She also called on the students to be humble and determined to study hard to take full advantage of the country's educational resources.

Ms Dontwi cautioned the young boys against wasting quality time, playing games and betting, but rather live upright lives and desist from acts that could project a negative image of their lives.

She also advised them to be disciplined and serious with their studies so that they could become useful citizens in the future and avail themselves of the opportunity their parents and government were offering them to develop their talents.

She noted that acts such as indiscipline, examination malpractices and drug-abuse were some of the negative tendencies that had effects on their career and called on students at all levels to feel free to go for counselling on how to stay away from drugs.

Ms Kate Ivy Wilson, the Secretary of Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) admonished them to learn to motivate themselves and develop creative thinking ability and stressed the need for them to have a good sleep and have timely rest in preparation towards their examination.

Mr Isaac Kweku Quainoo, the Director of the Club pledged the group's commitment to organise periodic training and mentorship programme to empower and motivate students.

That, he stated was the way to help students identify their talents, develop a good personal brand, and build excellent communication skills.

Some high profile personalities in the area and heads of departments and Institutions and Agencies were on hand to share their experiences and life success stories with the young people, particularly, the girls.
