500-Bed Military Hospital Project To Be Ready In December 2019

The 500-bed military hospital being constructed in Afari in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District to assist enhance access to quality healthcare would be ready in December, next year.

About 90 per cent of the structural works of the US$180 million is estimated to have now been completed.

Mr. Islam Sharawy, Resident Manager of Euroget Group, the contractors, announced this when he took journalists on a tour of the project.

The administration block and the wards of the facility had been roofed and work is steadily progress on other structures.

The project was started in 2014, but suffered delays, because of encroachment on part of the acquired land and it had to be re-designed.

The long wait to receive parliamentary approval for tax exemptions on the imported construction materials to allow these to be cleared at the ports also did not help matters.

On completion, it would have start-of-the-art equipment to provide world class medical services.

Mr. Sharawy, however, expressed optimism that the December 2019 deadline would not be missed.

They were confident that they would be handing the project over to the Ministry of Defense (MoD).

He pledged quality job to ensure value for money and said they had been insisting that their sub-contractors worked to meet contract specifications.

Mr. Prince Armah, the Country Manager of Euroget Group, said they would work tirelessly to see the completion of the project.

They were in Ghana to serve the interest of the people but not the interest of any political party.

Euroget entered into a concessional suppliers' credit facility and a turnkey contract with the Ghana Government in 2008 to construct nine fully functional hospitals including the Afari facility.
