The Ashanti Regional Prisons Band, under the able Command of Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) Wilfred C. Annang, is set to roll out a musical concert dubbed, Music in Corrections Outreach, ‘MICO’, come June, 2018 in Kumasi.

Music as a rehabilitation tool.
The Music Unit plans to use the art of Music as a rehabilitation tool to help fight depression, anxiety, and other psychological disorders among inmates. Inmates who are interested in music will be supported to work on their tracks, whiles the various inmates choirs in the Northern belt will be strengthened.

Programmes.
Music Reality Show: The Band plans to organize a musical reality show to unearth raw talents among inmates who have the zeal and passion in music.

An inmate with the Kumasi Central Prison, somewhere last year was coached to release a six track gospel album which is played on major radio stations in the region.

This reality show will be catchment area.
Music and Drama Concerts: There would be a Dance band concert which will be staged at the Center for National Culture, with support from sister security bands; Army Band, Police and Prisons Bands respectively.

A replica of this show will be repeated in other regions within our territory.

Regimental Band Concert and launch of Bnad: The Ashanti Regional Band, in a bid to promote its presence, will have an official launch that will come with a concert.

The MICO Project is not going to be an Ashanti Region only event but one, if well resourced or sponsored will definitely see it making waves in other regions.

Dance Band Concerts: There would be a Dance band concert which will be staged at the Center for National Culture, with support from sister security bands; Army Band, Police and Prisons Bands respectively.

Band History
The Ashanti Regional Prisons Band, Kumasi ; is the first band to be established out of Accra after several years of the establishment of the central band. With an initial man power of 12 bandsmen, under the able Command of Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) Wilfred Annang. The band is positioned to perform at all functions that demand any kind of musical displays. National parades, State banquets and social events are some of the protocol assignments that also engage the band’s attention.

It serves officers as well as civilian populace as demanded appropriately and currently located at the Prisons barracks at Bekwai round- about, Kumasi.
