The Standing Committee of the National House of Chiefs have admonished chiefs to follow due processes and laid procedures to resolve chieftaincy disputes rather than seeking political favour in the country.

According to a press statement issued by the Standing Committee of the National House of Chiefs, it noted that the recent escalation of chieftaincy disputes and the direct interference of politicians in chieftaincy matters has assumed its alarming proportions in the country.

The statement further cautioned chiefs who are involved in chieftaincy disputes of any kind or the other to adhere to the due process of the law and procedure laid down by the relevant statutes on chieftaincy , rather than resorting to the use of politicians,” who tend to interfere with and in most cases attempt to distort and sometimes succeed in distorting the said laid down process and procedure to their undue advantage.”

The Chiefs advised Politicians to refrain from using their positions to interfering in the chieftaincy issues on behalf of affected chiefs, these acts they believe are aimed at scoring “ underserved political points and to win the support of such chiefs to pursue their agenda of maintaining political power”.

The National House of Chiefs however urged politicians to be bold enough to advice chiefs who would approach them to use their political positions to interfere on their (affected chiefs ) behalf in a dispute to direct such chiefs to resort to the use of due processes of the law to resolving chieftaincy disputes in the country.
