The Chief Of Defense Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa, has warned the military who are part of the Anti-Galamsey Task Force that they will be strictly dealt with if they collaborate or offer any sort of help with the people behind illegal mining in the country.

Speaking at the launch of the Central Regional Wing of the Task Force, Operation Vanguard which happened at Dunkwa Kyekywere in the Upper Denkyira East District today stated with seriousness, that “anybody collaborating with Galamsey people will be dealt with very strictly”.

He continued, “It will be highly unpatriotic for anybody to be assigned this important role and to turn around and collaborate with them ‘(illegal miners)”.

Still speaking at the event, he assured Ghanaians, the task force is still committed to ensuring that the vision of the president to get rid of Galamsey is still on course and they are doing everything to curb the problem that has led to the contamination of several water bodies as well as causing environmental hazards.

Government has been fighting Galamsey head on for the past years, with the fight getting intense in the past year. The act which strips the country of several millions of Ghana cedis yearly, is in no certain way over. And that is why the CDS has issued the warning to the Anti-Galamsey task force to ensure no one defects to the other side.
