The Executive Director of West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) has suggested that the security systems in Ghana should carry out frequent terror attack response simulations.

Chuku Emeka Eze says in a region vulnerable to terror attacks, such activities can just go a long way to prepare the security personnel to handle the real deal if it occurs.

“They [simulations] are very necessary. They are proactive measures the security forces take so in the event anything happens they are not taken unaware,” he said.

Mr Eze says this situation should in no way create panic because the fact that one prepares for war doesn’t mean he expects war but if eventually there is war, you will be prepared.

“…the opposite is that you don’t prepare and if there’s an attack you are taken unaware and the enemy is ahead of you the security agent,” he told Gifty Andoh on ‘The Pulse’ on the Joy News channel Tuesday.

His comments are a response to a simulation exercise carried out by a joint police and military team at the Golden Tulip Hotel in the capital, Accra, Tuesday.

Meanwhile , a military cooperation agreement between the US and Ghana part of which is to help fight terrorism in the sub-region has attracted fierce criticisms from a section of the Ghanaian public and political opponents.

The critics argue that the agreement amounts to a gradual mortgage of Ghana’s sovereignty to the superpower.
