Misery Of The Poor, Outcome Of Political And Institutional Injustice

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality (Desmond Tutu).

I feel the waves of a hazy political climate in which people are passing caustic remarks against our political leadership as a result of the incessant corruption. Often times people keep mute because the consequences of intervening seems too intimidating. But when the frog is inundated with water, it belches.

Resonating Prof Plo Lumumba, "In Africa, the shortest route to ill gotten wealth is political leadership. If you want to get wealth without working for it, join an African politics".

In Africa, Ghana to be precise, if we are to name the top ten richest men in Ghana, almost all of them will be the politicians. Ghana is a rich country. Aside our numerous natural resources, we have the talents, learned graduates, teachers, etc who are willing and prepared to turn this country around but are not given the platform to prove it. As a result people have died with great ideas, ideas which could have paradise Ghana, but these corrupt politicians killed the dreams and talents of those people. Millions of graduates are yearning for employment but to no avail. But the hard truth is, had it not been the selfishness and insensitiveness of some politicians, issues of unemployment wouldn't have gained much notoriety in our society. What do we expect when our MPs, ministers receive astronomical and double salaries a month? And What happens when some MPs only think of amassing wealth for themselves and their grandchildren yet unborn?

Somewhere in Ghana, a graduate receives less than GH¢400 a month. But in other part of the world, a Ghanaian graduate receives not less than GH¢2000 a month.

Our MPs and Ministers think they always deserve better than the "ordinary Ghanaians". If some MPs serving as ministers bagged GH¢32,162 a month, then do we expect a "miraculous development"?No country development was miraculous or accidental, rather a concerted effort from dedicated and committed individuals coupled with conscious planning.

The same people we entrusted our lives to have become a thorn in our flesh. They operate a hypocritical venture and hide behind the wall and pretend they care only to suck the blood of the " ordinary Ghanaians".

In the Akan parlance, there is a saying that, "if you have nothing to offer your in-laws,why steal from them". The poor man struggles to pay their water bill, electricity, taxes, etc and what do these MPs and ministers pay for!

Some of the MPs, probably, the majority are not representing the voice of the people, neither are they working but only interested in lavishing the tax payers money.

Moreover, some of our politicians have chosen an ostentatious and grandiose lifestyles, so they choose buying a V8 at a price of about 4 billion instead of using that money to turn a whole community life around. Look at our roads, schools, hospitals, market centres, etc, there is nothing good home to write about.

Recently, In Saint Gregory Hospital at Kasoa, a baby died because his parents could not afford the cost of aiding his breathing with an oxygen machine (Ghanaguardian News, 11th April, 2018).

I have embraced crying mothers who have lost their children because our politicians put their personal agendas before the national good. I have no patience for injustice, no tolerance for government incompetence, no sympathy for leaders who fail their citizens (Donald Trump).

If our leaders are not empathetic to see things as if they were behind our eyes or hear things as if they were between our ears or experience things as if they were in our shoes, then why do this same "ordinary Ghanaians" fight over and waste their precious time during an election? At least they should have convinced us for once. But both NPP and NDC take Ghanaians for granted. Neither NPP nor NDC left office without corruption scandals. It's a shame. We always talk and talk when we hear corruption scandals, but leaves it to rot in few days until it manifest again. We only address symptoms and not causes. Let's stand up and fight for our right for if we are not careful in this country political injustices and politicisation of issues will instigate "violence".

I believe the law in itself is bias. The greatest injustice is judging a common thief for 5years or 10 years in jail whilst the bigger thief-- the hungry and greedy bastards, those who rob a whole country are treated with impunity?

It seems to me that an unjust law is no law at all (Saint Augustine).

Come to think of it, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) aimed at providing funding to supplement government effort for the provision of educational infrastructures and facilities, research, scholarships, etc has not achieved it objectives because the politicians channel the money into something you and I cannot fathom. The GETFUND is a lost priority when we look at the magnitude of problems that plagues the educational system in Ghana.

Sacking a known corrupt political leader and not retrieving the money means condoning the act. Because at the end of the day, the person loses position but runs away with the tax payer's money. It's a total cheat.

Where you see wrong or inequality or injustice, speak out, because this is your country. This is your democracy. Make it. Protect it. Pass it on (Thurgood Marshall).

Let's fight against the amount of incivility, inequality and inhumanity that engulfs this country. Let's fight against injustices and the exploitation of the "ordinary Ghanaian". The poverty and inequality gap is a political gap.

You can only watch injustice go on for so long until you're compelled to say something. To speak out against it (Macklemore). Let us speak out or at a highly best demonstrative massively across the breath and length of this country to show our displeasure against the unpleasant acts from our political leadership.
