Let Us Deal With The Corrupt

Feature Article Let Us Deal With The Corrupt
APR 21, 2018 LISTEN

Corruption in this country must be vigorously fought and defeated; that is the surest way through which we can succeed as a nation. Corruption is a killer and exposes so many people, especially the vulnerable to suffering and wallowing in extreme poverty.

Several people have lost their lives, struggling to eck out decent living, struggling to meet their health needs, not being able to cater for the needs of their children, especially those in school, among others as a result of the consequences of corruption.

Something drastic should be done in dealing with this societal evil, something far reaching must be done to deter people from engaging in corrupt acts and practices so that this country will begin seeing and enjoying the benefits of the resources meant for us all.

We have talked about this canker severally; this is the time to act, and we must do so with seriousness, understanding that failure to address it now, will continue to negatively affect our economy and country.

The fight against corruption is a decision, based on determination and the will to build a robust economy and a future of hope for all, especially the youth and posterity. Ghana is not poor, corruption has rendered her so; but we can act swiftly to address it if we take the right steps. It is always said that we need to name and shame corrupt persons, I agree; but most importantly, we have to punish them severely and again confiscate the assets acquire with the corrupt resources.

What is making it difficult in winning the fight against corruption at times is the tendency for some people to needlessly defend the corrupt as a result of membership of certain societal groupings, especially political groupings and interferences by the powerful and influential in society. This must stop now if we want to win this war.

But in all this, the resolve of the government is important in our quest to nib this canker in the bud. The government must be seen to be leading the way in this fight by living beyond reproach and ensuring that the corrupt are dealt with severely and timely in accordance with the law without fear or favour. Corruption has no colour, but disturbing consequences on society; those who are involved, must be dealt with regardless of their sociopolitical persuasion or orientation. The fight against corruption is one for justice, equity and fairness. Punish the corrupt in order to rescue the poor, vulnerable, economy, country, children from perishing needlessly. We must all get involved in this worthy fight.

God bless Ghana!
