MTN Ghana Foundation Commemorates World Malaria Day

Accra, April 20, 2018 – MTN Ghana Foundation will distribute Insecticide Treated Nets in commemoration of World Malaria Dayon 25th April 2018.

Marking the day under the theme “Ready to BeatMalaria,”MTN staff volunteers will distribute 300 Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) to pregnant women, nursing mothers and children in Sekyere Krobo and Nsuta CHPS Compound in the Wassa East District of the Western Region. In the Ashanti region, MTN volunteers will distribute ITNs at Atonsu Agogo Government Hospital and at Pentecost Hospital, Madinain theGreater Accra Region.

World Malaria day is celebrated to recognize efforts being made globally to fight malaria, provide education and understanding of malaria as a global scourge that is preventable. This year’sWorld Malaria Day will provide an opportunity for governments and other partners of the health sector to provide support and unite under a common goal of a world free of malaria.

Commenting on the celebration, the Acting Corporate Services Executive, Mr. Samuel Koranteng noted that for more than a decade, the MTN Ghana Foundation has been a proud contributor to Ghana’s health sector through various interventions to ensure a healthier society. In the fight against malaria, the MTN Ghana Foundation has engaged in a number of activities over the years. These include residual spraying ofindoors gutters and drains in various communities and the distribution of ITNs in partnership with various NGOs across the country.

“The MTN Ghana Foundation commits resources towards World Malaria Day celebration with the objective of supporting efforts being made globally to fight malaria,” he added.

The efforts being put in place by the MTN Ghana Foundation to maximize the delivery of healthcare in Ghana are very significant. Over the years MTN Foundation has invested in over 50 major health projects which include the construction and refurbishment of hospital wards, CHPS Compounds and support for special medical conditions. The Foundation also constructed a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for the Tamale Teaching Hospital to give a new lease of life to neonates in the northern part of the country. In December 2015, the Foundation reequipped the 2nd Floor of Korle Bu Maternity Ward with medical equipment to ensure expectant mothers receive quality healthcare. In a few weeks MTN Foundation will hand over a 40 bed Maternity Block with equipment for the Tema General Hospital, in the Greater Accra region.
