Lets Maintain Unity, Focus--Samira Bawumia Urges As NPP Honours Baffour Osei-Akoto
21.04.2018 LISTEN

The second Lady Hajia Samira Bawumia has called on members of the New Patriotic Party to maintain their unity and focus as that was what helped the party to win power in 2016.

She said divisions and bitter rivalry would only derail the success story of the NPP noting however that by unity the party could record 100 percent votes in the region.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony of the construction of an ultra-modern office complex at Asafo Dadiesoaba in Kumasi, the second lady noted urged them to engage in a healthy contest during their regional congress.

The second lady who was elated at the construction of the office complex commended the Ashanti regional chairman of the party Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako affectionately called Wontumi for steadily and strongly working on his promises for the party.

“He told us that he was going to do everything possible for Nana Addo to win, and by God’s grace we won massively especially here in Ashanti region, he also promised to build a regional office for the party and this is what we are witnessing here today. I am sure in 2020 election we will record 100 percent from Ashanti region”, he enumerated amid loud applause.

The construction of the ultra-modern office will be one of the biggest legacies of the Wontumi administration apart from being the administration to win the highest percentage of votes for the party in a general election.

The sod cutting ceremony drew the attention of several people from the various parts of the party and region because of an earlier announcement that the facility would be named after the Founder of the National Liberation Movement and one of the main leaders of the UP Tradition, which birthed the NPP, Baffour Osei-Akoto.

It was attended by the Chief Of Staff Hon Abena Frema Opare, Acting National Chairman Mr. Freddy Blay, Minister of Creation of new Regions and MP for Okre Mr. Dan Botwe, Ashanti regional Caucus of Members of Parliament, Members of the Regional Council of Elders, MMDCEs, among several others.

Even though Bafuor Akoto is noted for having played a pivotal role I the elephant tradition, nothing significant is known by the youth of the party to have been done to solidify the respect attached to his name, hence many think the honor done him by the Wontumi administration is timely.

The Ashanti regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah in his address commended the regional chairman for the bold step to build the facility, and selflessness to name it after Bafuor Osei-Akoto.

“We know the difficulties and challenges our founding fathers faced while bringing this party up, that is why I am so happy about chairman Wontumi’s decision to name it after our fallen hero Bafuor Osei-Akoto”. Mr. Osei Mensah noted.

Calling for support from all well-meaning party members in the construction of the edifice, the regional minister announced that his outfit together with all MMDCEs supports the construction with 10,000 blocks and 3,000 bags of cement.

Mr. Osei Mensah used the opportunity to advise all contestants of the upcoming regional congress and their supporters to avoid any acts that would hurt the unity and coherence of the party in the region.

“Let me also commend Mr. Asare Bediako for rescinding his decision to contest Chairman Wontumi and to allow him to go unopposed” he noted.

Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako recounting some historical facts leading to the formation and sustenance of the elephant tradition noted that his executives and himself are also loyal to Asanteman and the NPP hence their resolve to honor Bafuor Akoto.

He expressed gratitude to the chief of Agric Nzema Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo who he referred to as the ‘Captain of Millionaires’ in the country, for his immense support and contribution towards the building of the edifice.

Some of the children of Baffour Osei-Akoto who represented their father expressed gratitude to the NPP and chairman Wontumi for honouring their father.
