Women Challenged To Balance Work With Family Life

Panellists at a breakfast meeting, organised by the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), have urged women to maintain a balanced work and family life.

They said balancing family and work life was important for women's health and for ensuring a secured future for their children.

The panel members were Mrs Shika Acolatse, the Country Director, ENABLIS; Mrs Georgette Sakyi-Addo, the Executive Director, Georgette Barnes Limited; Mrs Olivia Donkor, the Chief Executive Officer of Ariel's Haven, and Mr Jonathan Ane, the President, CGCC, and Managing Director of Rhema Systems and Associates Ltd.

The CGCC breakfast event on Women in Business Networking was on the theme: 'Maintaining a Work-Life Balance,' and was opened by Ms Heather Anne Cameron, the Canadian High Commissioner.

The meeting brought together a large number of women in business and entrepreneurship, chief executive officers and captains of industries.

Mrs Sakyi-Addo urged all women to continue to work and to seek support from their husbands where necessary.

'If there is something in any part of your working life that you can outsource or get somebody to help with, you try and get help,' she said.

She advised her fellow working women to take breaks, saying 'when you can, take breaks and enjoy work and enjoy your life'.

Mrs Acolatse noted that many a time, women, especially those who were married, turned to forget that they had partners with whom they could share 'the good things, problems and responsibilities.'

She said sharing of ideas helped to lessen the burden at the work place and at home, leading to a balanced and better life.

Mrs Donkor said for women to have balanced family and working lives, there was the need to create boundaries and allocate time and dates for each project.

Mr Ane advised women to take good care of their health since 'health is wealth.'

He called for empowerment of women considering that women played very pivotal roles in the nation's socioeconomic development.
