Ghanaians Must Exhibit Right Attitudes Towards Nation Building

Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, has called on Ghanaians to rededicate themselves and exhibit right attitudes towards nation building.

He said Ghana needed active involvement and participation of all citizens to confront the myriad of challenges facing its progress and development.

Mr. Osei Mensah made the call at the regional launch of the 2018 budget education campaign in Kumasi.

The campaign, which is being spearheaded by the Information Services Department (ISD), the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is to sensitize the public on the contents of the budget to enable them have clearer knowledge of the economic policy and direction of the government.

Mr. Osei Mensah said through priority investments, the agricultural sector made a significant increase in its performance.

The sector increase to 4.3 per cent in 2017 as against three per cent recorded in 2016.

He said the 2018 budget which is under the theme 'Stabilization for growth - putting Ghana back to work' aimed at building the nation from its current state to a Ghana beyond aid.

It has a broad agenda driven by investment in agriculture, agribusiness and innovation programmes and targeted at creating jobs and providing equal opportunities for all Ghanaians.

Mr. Osei Mensah said the government was committed to implement the initiatives provided in the 2018 budget to sustain socio-economic growth, expand infrastructure and improve the wellbeing of all citizens.

He said the implementation of the free senior high school education programme, the planting for food and jobs, the reduction of electricity tariffs and other interventions were to help reduce the financial burden on the people.

The Regional Minister called on the people to study the contents in the budget in order to keep themselves abreast with the economic direction of the government.

Nana Akrasi Sarpong, the Ashanti Regional Director of the ISD, said the Department remained the strongest link between the government and the citizenry.

He said the education campaign was to provide the platform for the public to appreciate the 2018 budget.
