Government Inaugurates CSIR-SARI Board

Nyankpala (N/R), April 17, GNA - A seven-member Management Board of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research - Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR - SARI) has been inaugurated to oversee the operations and strengthen research for agricultural development.

The Board will amongst others be responsible for research policy as well as approve all annual estimates, procurements and budgets of the CSIR - SARI.

It is chaired by Mr Alhassan Andani, who is Managing Director of Stanbic Bank, whiles other members include Mr Issahaku Adams, Director of Administration of CSIR Head Office, Dr E. K. Adu, Cognate Director and Director of CSIR Animal Research Institute and Dr Stephen Nutsugah, Director of CSIR - SARI.

The rest are Mallam Seidu, Manager of Kokobila Farms Limited, Mr Emmanuel Sasu Yeboah, Upper West Regional Director of Agriculture, and Madam Janet Chigabatia Adama, Manageress of Savanna Marketing Company.

Professor Victor Agyeman, Director General of CSIR, who inaugurated the Board at Nyankpala in the Tolon District of the Northern Region , emphasized the need for Management of CSIR - SARI to recognize the Board in its activities to ensure smooth functioning of the facility.

Professor Agyeman said whiles Management was responsible for the day-to-day running of the CSIR - SARI, it was incumbent on it to report all its activities to the Management Board to promote good corporate governance.

He advised Management and Staff of CSIR-SARI to follow the laid down procedures to address issues at the facility to ensure smooth administration.

Mr Andani said the CSIR was composed of the best and the brightest in the country urging staff to continue to work hard for the development of the country.

He assured that the Board would work to establish accountability mechanisms to ensure smooth running of the facility.

Dr Nutsugah said the inauguration of the Board marked a new dawn for the facility as it would help to promote accountability and direction for the facility.

CSIR - SARI is mandated to provide farmers in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions with appropriate technologies to increase their food and fibre crop production based on sustainable production system, which maintains and or increases soil fertility.
