UDS, CSIR-SARI Sign MoU

The University for Development Studies (UDS) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research - Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR - SARI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in research and academic activities to ensure efficiency.

The MoU harmonizes operations of both institutions such that they will share resources including common laboratories to save cost whiles avoiding replication of facilities, UDS students will be placed on practical attachment at CSIR - SARI, and research scientists from CSIR - SARI will teach at UDS, whiles lecturers from the latter also undertake research at the former.

Professor Gabriel Teye, Vice-Chancellor of UDS signed on behalf of the University, whiles Professor Victor Agyeman, Director General of CSIR, signed on behalf of CSIR - SARI.

Professor Teye, who spoke after signing the MoU at Nyankpala on Monday, said it would help lecturers of UDS to teach new innovations and discoveries by the research scientists of CSIR - SARI to better prepare students for the world of work.

He said the MoU would also ensure pooling of resources, which would help in improving the operations of both institutions to help develop the country.

He said the agreement was long overdue as both institutions had already been collaborating especially in the area of teaching.

Professor Agyeman said the MoU was in line with CSIR's policy to promote 70 per cent research and 30 per cent teaching, which was good for career development of research scientists at CSIR - SARI, as well as national development.

He said the MoU would also help both institutions to complement their operations as well as build synergy for efficiency.

Dr Stephen Nutsugah, Director of CSIR - SARI, said the MoU held enormous benefits for both institutions as it would help them to improve on their research capabilities for the development of the country.
