Court Bonds Unemployed For Causing Harm

An Accra Circuit Court has ordered Daniel Mills, unemployed who with a cutlass harmed a staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 12 months.

In default, Mills who pleaded guilty to causing harm and was convicted on his own plea will serve 12 months imprisonment in hard labour.

The Prosecution witness, Stephen Aggor, had pleaded with the Court to bond Mills.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Francis Tassan told the Court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh that Aggor is an electrical technician with ECG, Korle-Bu branch, whilst Mills also resides at James Town, all suburbs of Accra.

The prosecution said on March 2, at about 11:30 hours, Aggor and three of his colleagues who are witnesses in the case were on official duties checking pre-paid metres at James Town.

He said at Mills' house, the ECG team detected that the metre had been tampered with and questioned Mills about it.

The Prosecution said the team then decided to switch-off the metre as Mills could not give any good explanation, the convict however prevented the ECG team from performing that duty.

He said Mills entered his room and brought out a cutlass which he used to slap Aggor's buttocks.

Aggor then held the cutlass but Mills pulled it from his hand, causing the Aggor to sustain cuts on the forearms and small fingers.

The team overpowered Mills and a complaint was lodged with the police which led to his arrest.

A police medical report form was issued to the complainant to go to the hospital to seek medical attention.

The prosecution said Mills was later arraigned.
