Mr John Amanor Terkpetey, Volta Regional Labour Officer said the office received a total of 134 job applications in 2017.

He said 126 of the applicants were males with only eight females seeking placement in 54 vacancies in both public and private sectors in the Region.

Mr Terkpetey who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Ho said 53 of the vacancies were filled and encouraged employers to notify the labour office of employment opportunities so that they could update the labour data in time to help job seekers.

He said the Region did not record any agitations on the labour front because social partners complied with the basic labour laws and conventions.

Mr Terkpetey said issues of annual leave and minimum wage were the main causes of agitations and urged employees to study the labour law so that they could demand their rights and entitlements as provided by the International Labour Organisation.

Mr Terkpetey said the basic daily minimum wage for every worker this year was GHC 9.68, an increment of 10 per cent from the previous wage.
