The PenyMan Foundation a Non-Governmental Organisation that seeks to assist development partners has hosted a blood campaign exercise for the blood bank of Our Lady of Grace Hospital, Breman Asikuma.

The programme was held in collaboration with the movement of the hospital to help address severe shortages of blood for patients in many emergency cases especially for innocent Children and Pregnant women that result in their death due to shortage of blood.

A total of 147 pints of blood was donated by the volunteers including; members of the foundation in Breman Asikuma, Odoben and Brakwa communities where the exercise took place.

The Laboratory Personnel of the Hospital at the various towns took the volunteers through medical tips in respect of donating blood and also measured their blood level and weight to avoid health implications like collapsing and the likes before the exercises commenced.

Speaking to the media Mr Eric Tailor, Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the Foundation said hosting the blood drive was also to promote awareness among people in the area about blood donation describing the exercise as successful though they could not achieve their target of 200 pints of blood.

'Development is a collective affair and it was about time we put aside our political sentiments, support and contributed towards the success of programmes and events under execution to improve the livelihood of all and sundry in the district,'he stated.

Mr Tailor lamented further that the foundation would organise such programmes quarterly at communities where CHPS Compounds were in the district to help save lives.

Mr Anthony A. Afful Human Resources Officer of Our Lady of Grace Hospital thanked the foundation for the campaign and promised that the gesture would be put to good use to go a long way help to reduce maternal and mortality deaths in the area.

He appealed for further support for the expansion of the maternity ward and to help equip their laboratory with modern equipment, which he said were the major challenges of the hospital.

Later in an interaction with some of the donors they stated that they were grateful for the opportunity to donate blood as they felt happy that, the blood donated would help save a life and also to encourage others to participate in such events.
