Free Zones Engages CEOs

The Ghana Free Zones Authority opened its third in the series of roadshows for Captains of industries to take advantage of the many reliefs within the GFZA in growing the local economy.

The meeting with the Chief Executive Officers of businesses and prospective ones was also to discuss operational issues, licensing and enlistment of more companies in the near future.

Mrs Kate Abbeo, Deputy Executive Secretary, Corporate Affairs of the GFZA during the engagement mentioned that realising the challenges for business growth and attract foreign direct investment was paramount to the organisation and the general development of the country.

The free Zone programme combines both the enclave and single factory enterprise schemes to promote processing and manufacturing of goods through the establishment of export processing zones as well as developing commercial and service activities at sea and air port areas.

She said, "the whole of Ghana is accessible to potential investors who can use the free zones as a focal point to produce goods and services for foreign markets.

The GFZA was purely a private sector driven activity and government ensures the facilitation, regulations and monitoring of their activities in conformity with national trade regulations.

The Deputy Executive Secretary said the GFZA was to help transform Ghana into the gateway of West Africa by creating an attractive and conducive business environment through the provision of competitive free zones incentives and operations.

She said the GFZA had instituted research unit to gather market intelligence, policing unit to check players in the industry and immigration desk to help foreign investors.

"We are benching our activities with other countries in order to improve on best practices ", she added.
