The Tokokoe Community in the Ho Municipality has inaugurated a Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound to improve primary health in the area.

The completion of the facility was marked with a colourful durbar and massive jubilation by residents who revelled in the completion of a project that had stalled for over 40 years.

Foodtech Limited, producers of Snappy Snacks became the latest to support the completion of the facility, which was commenced in 1972 by the chiefs with support from churches and other organizations and individuals.

Captain Rtd. George Nfodjoh, a former Chief Executive of the Ho Municipal Assembly who commissioned the project, commended the people for the initiative and advised them to report all ailments to the health facility for proper attention.

Dr Senanu Djokoto, Municipal Health Director, said the Tokokoe community had exhibited a significant achievement through communal spirit and urged them to revive community health committees towards a more effective health delivery system.

He also stressed on the need to reinvigorate volunteerism and promised the support of the Health Directorate in providing accommodation and essential equipment for the facility.

Dr Djokoto said the compound would receive its share of health personnel and appealed to the community to take advantage of the ongoing health programmes, particularly the distribution of mosquito nests.

Madam Vivian Kodzi, Superintendent Community Health Nurse, noted that the facility lacked delivery equipment and some basic medicines, and said poverty remained roadblock to accessing health facilities in the farming community, thus the need to take advantage of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The CHPS compound has a community health nurse, midwife, a mental health nurse, and two health assistants.
