Out Of Court Settlement For Oguaa South NPP Constituency Dispute
22.03.2018 LISTEN

Mr Kumi Bruce, a member of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pleaded with the Cape Coast High Court II to allow him to initiate an out of Court settlement of the ensuing Cape Coast South NPP Constituency electoral dispute.

When the case was called at the Cape Coast High Court II on Monday Morning, he pleaded with the Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Atsu Lodo, to adjourn the case to enable him settle the issues he described as "family affair" amicably.

The Court adjourned the case to Tuesday, March 27, 2018, to give the arbiter and the parties the opportunity to iron-out their differences and report back to the Court.

A large numbers of enthusiastic Party supporters, faithful, and sympathisers had thronged the High Court II to listen to the proceedings only for Mr Bruce to intervene.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the Court had granted his request, Mr Bruce noted that his decision was necessitated by the need to maintain peace and harmony before, during and after the elections to maintain Party unity.

The arbitration was accepted by both parties who declared their intention to support Mr Bruce's effort.

He called on all supporters and sympathizers of both of the parties to remain calm and resolute in their quest to resolve the issue amicably.

A Cape Coast High Court on Friday, 23 February 2018, placed an injunction on the Party's Constituency Election, following a suit filed by some concerned members of the Constituency challenging the eligibility of Mr. Alex Hagan to contest the Chairmanship position.

The concerned members indicated that Mr. Hagan was a registered voter in the Cape Coast North Constituency and therefore did not qualify for the Chairmanship position in the Cape Coast South Constituency.

That notwithstanding, they admitted that Mr. Hagan was a member of the NPP.
