The President, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor, has explained his reasons for retaining Dr Anane as the minister for road transport. He said he retained Dr Anane during the reshuffle of his team early this year because of his good performance despite agitations in certain quarters that the Road transport minister should be fired.

Addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Daboase, President Kufuor said since Dr Anane was appointed as minister for road transport, there had been tremendous development in the country's road infrastructure which he described as unprecedented in the history of the nation.

He said that was why, in spite of the numerous allegations made against Dr Anane, he still had confidence in him to do the job.

At the durbar, the chiefs and people of the Mpohor-Wassa East District in the Western Region conferred the traditional title of Nkosuohene (Development Chief) on President Kufuor, in acknowledgement of his development initiative in the district.

The durbar marked the beginning of President Kufuor's four-day tour of the Western Region, during which he will inaugurate and inspect development projects, as well as address durbars in various communities.
