Trial Of Allege Enemies Of The Nation Apt — ExLA Group
16.03.2018 LISTEN

The announcement on Wednesday 14, March that the state has filed a writ to prosecute the former Chief Executive of Cocoa Board and two others on 27 counts has brought a renewed hope and confidence in the state willingness to fight corruption head-on.

We applaud the attorney General for beginning to send a strong signal by putting before court those who are alleged to have caused financial loss to the state.

This decision is long overdue as Ghanaians have been in the waiting mood since the government took over the running of government last year but like they say “it is better late than never”.

This is to send a strong signal to all public officials who have the privilege and the trust of the people to manage the affairs of the state to be circumspect in their dealings and be guided by the laws of the country.

For those who perceive the action to be tainted with partisan politicking, it shall continue to be their opinion but the courts shall administer justice without malice or ill-will.

Government responsibility to protect the public purse would not be contingent on the barking and threats of few who may have benefited from the spoils of government.

If there is no merit in the prosecution, the courts shall expose the frivolity of the initiators but for now, it is highly repugnant for groups to allege witch-haunting and selective justice.

Like Mr. Martin Amidu indicated to the President during his swearing-in as the Special Prosecutor “ propaganda about witch-hunting will not daunt me from prosecuting all corruption crimes without reference to political considerations, as you had yourself (President Akufo Addo) admonished, once a suspected offender is established by investigations to have committed offences prosecutable in the national interest. I will treat crime as crime and nothing else”.
