By Paul Yankey

Tikobo No.1(W/R),March 05,GNA-As part of the sixty-first(61st) Independence Anniversary celebrations, the Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs,Mr.Paul Essien has advocated an African cultural revolution towards continental unity and development.

He therefore made a strong case for the use of African local Languages which was a very significant feature of the unification and developmental agenda.

Mr.Essien who is also the Member of Parliament(MP) for the Jomoro constituency, expressed these sentiments in an interview with the Ghana News Agency(GNA) at Tikobo No.1 in the Western Region.

The Minister noted that the seemingly creeping of Western culture into Africa,as part of colonial domination, was a major setback to the African renaissance.

Mr.Essien reminded Africans to rethink their cultural heritage and play a front line role among the comity of nations.

He intimated that African leaders would have to rise up to the occasion and ensure the concept of the African personality and identity espoused by Osagyefo Dr.Kwame Nkrumah,W.e.b.DuBoius and others, was vigorously pursued.

Touching on the need for the use of local languages as a tool for development in Africa,Mr.Essien cited countries such as China,Holland,Germany and Italy where they have developed their local languages for all citizens to fully participate in national discourse.

On the Education front, the Minister appealed to the Ghana Education Service(GES) to ensure that all schools in Ghana follow the curriculum in a bottom-up approach so that the students cover the same topics in every step of their academic ladder.

Mr.Essien reiterated the need for Africa to be self-sufficient and actualize themselves to make the policy of the President,His Excellency,Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo,"Africa must go beyond Aid",a reality.
