West Africa Civil Society Institute( WACSI), has launched its new strategy for 2018-2020 to help promote professionalism within Civil Society in West Africa.

The new strategy will help create concerted efforts to reach smaller groups, rural and less resourced organisations through increased training of trainers and innovative e-learning approaches.

It will also increase engagement with organic social groups, movements, trade unions, professional organisations and faith-based organisations.

The new strategy is also aimed at increasing and improving knowledge production and sharing to help build a more focused and targeted policy influencing and advocacy work.

Addressing the gathering at the launch in Accra, the Executive Director of WACSI, Nana Asantewa Afadzinu, reiterated that WACSI’s main vision is to help build a West Africa where Civil Society will be efficient, effective, influential and sustainable, functioning as strategic partners for democracy, good governance and sustainable development.

She stressed WACSI’s aim to strengthen civil society through capacity enhancement, knowledge management, and policy influencing for promotion of development, good governance and democratic values in West Africa.

“We believe that if we want a West Africa that is peaceful and prosperous, it must be driven by its own people,” Nana Afadzinu said.

She added that WACSI would continue to strengthen civil society in West Africa to be responsible, collaborative, representative, resilient and influential through knowledge sharing, learning, connecting and influencing.

“Our values as an institute is to create a robust and vibrant civil society. We must reflect what it is that we want to see in the society”, she explained.

In a brief remark, Justice Emile short who was the chairperson of the occasion commended the good work of WACSI and urged all stakeholders to work hand in hand with the institute for it to achieve its core aim.
