The Grace Baptist Church (GBC), Amakom, Kumasi, has donated large quantity of items and cash in support of three institutions - Mother and baby Unit (MBU) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Manhyia Local Prison and All Nations Charity Home.

These included Bibles, bags of rice, fruit drinks, biscuit, soap, detergents, baby diapers, wooden benches, slippers and loaves of bread.

They were presented at separate ceremonies and formed part of activities marking its Golden Jubilee celebration.

The Reverend Robert Kwadwo Asante, the Senior Pastor, said as Christians they were enjoined by their faith to show love and to provide care for the sick, the poor and the needy.

The church would therefore continue to be associated with efforts at making life a bit comfortable to such people.

Madam Victoria Afra, a Senior Nursing Officer at KATH's MBU, thanked the church for the gesture.

She said the cash of GHC5,000.00 it added to the items would be used to buy drugs for patients and pay for tests including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans, which were not covered by the national health insurance scheme.

Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Patrick Thomas Seidu, second-in-command of the Manhyia Prisons, said the donation could not have come at a better time as they had been struggling with funds to take proper care of the prisoners.
