The National Executive of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) has donated 80 life jackets to its members in the Volta Region.

The gesture was to ensure the safety of personnel who cross rivers in boats and canoes to serve in difficult to reach areas, Mr. Philip Quaye, NASPA National President told the Ghana News Agency after presenting the items to the beneficiaries.

He said the national executive was worried about regular reports of boat disasters on the Volta Lake, with many losing their lives sadly due to lack of life jackets and urged the personnel to make good use of the jackets.

Mr. Ambrose Entsiwah Junior, Volta Regional Director, National Service Scheme expressed gratitude to the Association for the foresight and quick response to appeals for the items from the regional branch.

He said most Service Personnel posted to the Northern part of the Volta Region were teachers who crossed several rivers to teach in deprived communities and called for more of such supports.

Mr. Divine Bosson, Volta Regional Director, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) said the donation would help promote the work of NADMO in the area.
