Western Regional DVLA Recorded 614 Vehicle Registration In January

The Western Regional office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) registered a total of 614 vehicles at the end of January 2018 as against 564 in the same period in 2017.

Emmanuel Narh, the Western Regional Director of the DVLA who disclosed this in an interview, claimed that the vehicles registered included private and commercial ones.

He attributed the increase in the figure partly to the current stable economy that allows individuals to buy new vehicles.

“I also think that with the settlement of the boundary dispute with Ivory Coast, it has paved way for the acquisition of heavy duty vehicles, mostly by oil companies in the area,” he added.

Mr. Narh noted that the electronic system of registration is good but came with some challenges, including slow internet network which made it difficult to register more vehicles daily.

“The new smart card licence equipment has enhanced features and electronically programmed to ensure speedy service delivery,” he asserted.

He indicated that ensuring safety on the road is paramount and therefore imperative that the driving school concept is upheld by stakeholders to reduce the unwarranted road crashes.

“Going through the schools before acquiring the driving licence is the best; and I will recommend prospective drivers go through the driving schools,” he proposed.

Mr. Narh noted that all over the world, driving schools have been acknowledged as part of stakeholders working to promote safety.

“And so all categories of drivers must pass through such schools before they are presented for licensing,” he stressed.
