TWENTY-THREE suspected criminals, including a most wanted armed robber, have been smoked out from their hideouts by the Ashaiman police.

The special operation, which lasted more than four hours, also led to the arrest of two women.

About 30 suspected hideouts, where criminals purportedly meet, conspire, use narcotics before embarking on criminal acts in the municipality and its environs, were also burnt down.

Items such as packets of floor tile, rubber carpets, church speakers, flat screen television sets, building materials, among others, were retrieved.

Speaking with DAILY GUIDE on the operation, the Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Fleance Dikah, explained that the area has been a safe haven for suspected lawbreakers, who attack their victims, especially on the motorway.

“Due to the bushy and mushy nature of the area, the criminals had always returned to the place after each police swoop since it is difficult to enter the bush to arrest them.

“The area which stretches from the Fitter Lane through the high tension poles towards the Adjei Kojo underpass, along the motorway, has over the years been the den of professional armed robbers where they meet to market their goods and share the booties after robbery,” according to him.

Touching on the arrest of the notorious armed robber, ACP Dikah pointed out that the suspect (name withheld) had made some confessions and assisting the police to apprehend his accomplices who together had engaged in various robberies at Ashaiman and its surrounding communities.
