Support Martin Amidu to deliver - CVM calls
16.02.2018 LISTEN

Founder and President of Concerned Voters Movement (CVM) has called for support for the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Martin Amidu and officers at the Office of Special Prosecutor.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor will have the mandate to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged corruption under the Public Procurement Act 203 Act 63 and other corruption-related offenses implicating public officers, political office holders and their accomplices in the public sector.

Martin Amidu known as 'Citizen Vigilante' on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 faced Parliament’s Appointments Committee in what could probably be the longest ever parliamentary vetting session for a single individual in the 4th Republic.

The Special Prosecutor nominee responded to over 180 questions from all members of the committee in the over 7-hour long session.

According to the CVM boss, Razak Kojo Opoku, the support of Ghanaians will help the Special Prosecutor to administer financial and economic justice for Ghana.

Mr. Opoku said that Martin Amidu was very confident, honest and has left a lasting impression in the minds of Ghanaians with his answers during the vetting and both the Majority and Minority Members on the Appointments Committee did well by unanimously approving Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor.

He indicated that The Office of the Special Prosecutor is “not for jokes”, it is a very serious anti-corruption office which requires serious-minds to manage that office and Martin Amidu has just demonstrated that.

Razak Kojo Opoku said he sees it as “quite unfortunate that Kennedy Agyapong has described Martin Amidu as “very arrogant, very very arrogant who can’t take a simple joke” and that Martin Amidu is bitter and cannot work with “free mind”.

He explained that nobody in the NPP or any other Political Party has the right to order President Akufo-Addo about to do or undo anything against Martin Amidu because “even the Special Prosecutor Act does not support the suggestions by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong”.

He noted that all those who are opposed to the appointment of Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor are suffering from unnecessary worries and apprehension.

“As for CVM, if NDC or NPP collapse as results of corruption fight and the taxpayers’ monies are retrieved, protected, intact and not stolen, Ghanaians will forever be happy and grateful to President Akufo-Addo and the NPP Government for the establishment of the Office of Special Prosecutor", he emphasized.

"If Ghanaians will make savings and enjoy socio-economic development and prosperous Country through the collapse of NDC and NPP so be it. It will be better this way than having appointees stealing and amassing the wealth of this Nation for themselves.” He said.

He was grateful to the President Akufo-Addo for a good work done by selecting Martin Amidu for the job indicating that posterity shall be his judge. He tasked the President to ignore the rants and those who “selfishly” think about Party first at the detriment of the Nation.
