11.02.2018 LISTEN

Guwahati: Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expresses shock and grief at the untimely demise of a young photo journalist and urged the government to sanction financial assistances for the bereaved family.

The scribe’s forum also asked the media persons to take care of their health against the silent killers (heart & brain stroke). It may be noted that city based photo journalist Pranab Kalita, 35, who used to work for UB Photos, died of a massive heart-attack on 5 February 2018. He was reportedly suffering from hypertension for some months. Recently married, Pranab left behind his wife, a minor baby with other relatives and well-wishers.

“The media fraternity should take the advantage of OPD clinics run by Guwahati Press Club (GPC) every week. If they miss the media clinics at the press club premises for any reason, they should ensure similar healthcare consultations in other comfortable space,” said a statement issued by JFA president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria.

The JFA also expressed sorrow over the demise of senior journalist Dharani Kalita, who used to work for The Assam Tribune. Retired in 2005, Kalita died at the age of 74 after a brief illness at his Jotia residence in the city on the night of 9 February.

A former office bearer of GPC, Kalita left behind his wife, two sons & a daughter with a host of relatives. Mentionable is that Kalita was one of the beneficiaries of the journalist pension scheme launched by the Assam government. He was not keeping well to receive the relevant official letter recently from the authority. The JFA expressed hope that his wife would be authorized to receive the pension benefits here after without any delay.
