Kufour consoles Sudan on Garang death


Accra, Aug. 3, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Wednesday sent a message of condolence to President Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan following the tragic death of the First Vice President of country, Mr John Garang.

President Kufuor's message released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra, said: "I learnt with shock and dismay of the sudden and tragic death of Mr John Garang, First Vice-President of Sudan and Leader of the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement.

"I am deeply saddened by the tragedy, coming shortly after the peace process in Southern Sudan, which culminated, inter alia, in the appointment of Mr Garang as First Vice-President of the country." President Kufuor said he was optimistic that the tragic event would not derail the peace process adding: "Vice President Garang has won a place not only in history but in the hearts of all who love democracy and freedom."
